Renal stones are solid particles in the urinary system. They are one of the most painful of the urologic disorders. Men tend to be affected 4 times than women. It occurs more frequently in whites than in blacks.It shows a familial predisposition. It is common in people those in tropical countries. Studies have shown that
4% of the total population has stones in the urinary tract.
TYPES OF STONE
Calcium oxalate
Hard, single, mulberry.
Irregular in shape with sharp projection and radio opaque.
Uric acid
Hard,
smooth, small, often multiple, yellow or brownish red color and radiolucent.
Occur in acid urine.
Cystine stone
Multiple,
radio opaque and amber or yellow. They occur in acid urine. Appear in early
childhood with congenital error of metabolism.
Phosphate stone
Smooth,
round, dirty white to yellow in color and radiolucent.
Mixed stone
Composed
with Magnesium, Ammonium and Phosphate.
Xanthine stone
Smooth,
round and brick red in color.
ETIOLOGY

Symptoms
Acute

Acute symptoms may accompanied with nausea, vomiting, dizziness and abdominal discomfort. Polyuria, oliguria, or haematuria may be occurred in some occasion.
